Volvo Trucks launched a new extended-range FH Electric rigid truck designed for truck-and-trailer combinations with a gross combination weight of up to 80 tonnes, expanding its electric lineup for heavy long-haul and regional transport.

The 80-tonne figure represents the electric truck combination’s maximum gross weight capacity, according to today’s Volvo Trucks release.

Volvo provided range estimates at lower operating weights, including up to 450 kilometers, or about 280 miles, on a single charge at 64 tonnes and up to 420 kilometers, or about 261 miles, at 76 tonnes. The company did not specify the truck’s range when operating at the full 80-tonne maximum.

The truck uses the same powertrain introduced on Volvo’s new-generation FH, FM and FMX electric trucks earlier in 2026, according to the release. Its batteries provide 640 kWh of usable energy and feature an updated battery monitoring system and improved insulation designed for colder climates.

The FH Electric supports Megawatt Charging System and CCS2 charging, according to the release. A 680-kW megawatt charger can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in about 36 minutes, while a 360-kW CCS2 charger can complete the same charge in about 70 minutes.

Volvo also introduced hub-reduction axles designed to improve ground clearance, startability and payload capability for applications including timber transport and lighter construction work, according to the release.

The company plans to begin rolling out the truck in early 2027. Volvo Trucks is a subsidiary of Swedish equipment manufacturer Volvo Group.
