Volvo Group plans to establish a dedicated mining business that will bring together its trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions for mining customers and contractors.

The entity, Volvo Mining, is scheduled to launch Jan. 1 as part of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), according to today’s Volvo release. Operations will initially focus on Sweden, Norway and Finland, with plans to expand.

Volvo Mining will manage the group’s global mining product and service portfolio and coordinate mining-related research projects across its businesses. It will have dedicated financial resources.

Per-Erik Lindstrom, senior vice president of Volvo Trucks International, will lead Volvo Mining, effective Jan. 1.

Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE, said the venture will consolidate expertise from across Volvo Group while strengthening collaboration with retail partners, according to the release.

The initiative will integrate capabilities from Volvo CE, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Autonomous Solutions to address growing demand for mining equipment and technology, according to the release. The company intends for the approach to improve productivity, safety and operational efficiency across mining operations.
