Volvo Trucks has unveiled the Volvo VNR, a redesigned regional haul truck for the North American market.
Built on Volvo’s latest platform, the model offers improved fuel efficiency, enhanced safety features and increased versatility, according to a Volvo Trucks release today. Following the early 2024 launch of the Volvo VNL long-haul model, the Volvo VNR marks the second truck on the platform, featuring a 90% redesign.
Updates include advanced aerodynamics and powertrain innovations, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 7.5%, according to the Volvo Trucks release. The platform is designed to support future propulsion technologies, including battery-electric, fuel cell and internal combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as hydrogen.
A new 24-volt electrical architecture and active safety features will also serve as the foundation for future autonomous truck technology, according to the release. The Volvo VNR includes safety enhancements such as Volvo Active Driver Assist with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and integrated cab-mounted side curtain airbags for both driver and passenger.
A fully integrated Camera Monitor System replaces traditional mirrors with more aerodynamic, cab-mounted cameras for improved visibility, according to the release. Designed for versatility, the Volvo VNR is available in multiple configurations, including 4×2, 6×2, and 6×4 tractors.
