Bot Auto completes first driverless truck validation run in Houston
Company plans to conduct driverless run from Houston to San Antonio in coming months
Autonomous trucking startup Bot Auto just completed its first driverless hub-to-hub validation run in Houston, marking a milestone in its push to commercialize autonomous freight operations.
The truck operated without a driver in the cab or remote assistance, navigating real-world traffic at sunset and into the night, according to a Sept. 16 Bot Auto release.
“This validation run is a meaningful step, but it’s a waypoint, not the destination,” Bot Auto Chief Executive Xiaodi Hou stated in the release. “Success is simple — autonomy must beat human cost-per-mile, consistently and safely.”
The run followed end-to-end safety testing and incorporated multiple safeguards, including redundancy, health monitoring and fallback systems. The company has been running autonomous trucks with safety drivers between Houston and San Antonio. It plans to conduct its first driverless commercial cargo run on that route in the coming months.
