The cost of processing and overhead per booked small-ticket equipment finance transaction rose 14% to $2,729 in 2025, according to embedded lending fintech QuickFi‘s analysis of recent data from the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association.
Small-ticket sales, general and administrative expenses rose about 7% among lenders surveyed by ELFA, while booked transactions fell about 7%, according to a QuickFi release today. This combination drove the increase in cost per transaction.
The analysis divides the $1.8 billion in small-ticket sales, general and administrative expenses reported in 2025 by the 658,070 small-ticket applications that were booked and funded or sold. The calculation includes operating overhead but excludes credit losses.
ELFA defines a small-ticket item as a transaction between $25,000 and $250,000.
“The industry isn’t experiencing a staffing problem or a technology-budget problem. It’s an operating model problem,” QuickFi Chief Executive Bill Verhelle stated in the release. “When employees must touch every application, significant cost reduction isn’t possible.”
Through the first eight months of 2026, small-ticket deal volume in equipment finance was up 25.9% year over year, according to ELFA’s latest CapEx Finance Index.
