Equipment manufacturer Oshkosh Corp. unveiled a suite of electrification, AI, autonomy, and connectivity solutions aimed at supporting everyday heroes such as firefighters, postal carriers and construction workers.
The innovations, which they revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show, focus on safety, efficiency and sustainability, addressing critical community needs, according to the company’s Jan. 7 release. From fire and emergency response to refuse collection and airport operations, Oshkosh’s technologies are redefining essential tasks, ensuring a cleaner, safer and more productive future, according to the company.
Among its key advancements, Oshkosh introduced the McNeilus Volterra ZFL, an all-electric front-loader refuse truck designed for full-day operations on a single charge, according to the release. The vehicle features advanced AI capabilities such as bin detection and contamination identification, along with an electrified arm for faster and quieter operation.
Additionally, the company showcased HARR-E, an autonomous, on-demand refuse-collection robot that uses AI-enabled navigation and sensor technology to optimize waste collection, according to the release.
Improving working conditions
Oshkosh also highlighted safety innovations for first responders with its AI-powered Collision Avoidance Mitigation System (CAMS), according to the release. Designed for roadside emergency scenarios, CAMS uses advanced cameras, sensors and radar to detect oncoming vehicles and provide critical advance warnings of potential collisions. The system enhances situational awareness, reduces risks for emergency workers and aids in accident documentation through continuous video recording.
For airports and job sites, Oshkosh introduced autonomous and interconnected solutions to improve operations, according to the release. These include a driverless cargo handler for airports, equipped with LiDAR and object recognition, and job site technologies like the JLG Galileo, which combines boom lift and telehandler functions. The company also presented its Autonomous Mobile Charging Robot, designed to wirelessly charge electrified equipment, underscoring Oshkosh’s commitment to innovation and sustainability across industries.
