Caterpillar is collaborating with FieldAI to advance AI, autonomous systems and robotics.
The companies will combine Caterpillar’s industry expertise, engineering capabilities and operational data with FieldAI’s AI-powered robot foundation models, according to a Caterpillar release today. Initial applications include autonomous inspections, digital twins of jobsites and manufacturing facilities and improved situational awareness.
A digital twin is a virtual, real-time representation of a physical robot that mirrors its movements, behavior and operating conditions for performance monitoring and optimization, according to Nvidia.

For Caterpillar, digital twins will provide real-time visibility into equipment, infrastructure and operations, helping teams identify risks earlier and make faster decisions, according to the release.
“The future of our industries will be shaped by how effectively we combine human expertise with AI-powered machines,” Caterpillar Chief Technology Officer Jaime Mineart stated in the release.
The collaboration builds on Caterpillar’s vision for safer, more productive operations powered by intelligent machines, connected workflows and digital insights. The companies will also use Nvidia computing technologies and high-fidelity digital twins to improve site visibility and support AI-enabled industrial operations.
