Equipment rental giant United Rentals has expanded its use of Manual Assist AI, a web-based application that provides diagnostics and on-demand access to thousands of equipment manufacturer manuals for its service teams.

Developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the AI tool now supports more than 4,000 monthly users and is designed to help technicians diagnose issues faster, reduce equipment downtime and improve fleet utilization, according to a United release today. The application is built on AWS cloud infrastructure and generative AI services.

Manual Assist AI enables service teams to quickly locate the correct manuals, summarize service procedures and identify the most relevant technical information, both in store and in the field.

“Manual Assist AI helps our service teams get more equipment back into service faster, which directly improves fleet utilization,” said Tony Leopold, senior vice president and chief technology and strategy officer at United Rentals.
