The average retail price of used Class 8 trucks increased 10.4% year over year and 6.2% month over month in June despite market headwinds.
Dealer sales for used Class 8 trucks also rose 7% YoY, but fell 6% MoM, according to a July 28 report by ACT Research. While the price increases were lower than ACT’s preliminary numbers from earlier this month, the YoY jump is the first since December 2022, ACT Research Vice President Steve Tam stated in the report.
“In addition, trucks sold in June were younger and had fewer miles on them, a trend that has been in play for some time,” he said.
The price gains came despite stagnant freight activity and broader economic challenges, reflecting varied conditions across the industry, Tam said.
“The data and analysis are averages, and different segments of the industry are experiencing different realities,” he said. “On top of that, hardworking used-truck sales professionals are mining their customer databases in search of customers who may be in a position to buy.”
