Preliminary same-dealer retail sales of used Class 8 trucks rose 5.5% month over month and 2% year over year in July.
The average price of used Class 8 trucks increased 6% MoM and 14% YoY, according to a report today by ACT Research. Used Class 8 sales and prices continue to climb as rising new vehicle costs, tariffs and high operating costs steer more buyers toward the used-truck market.
“The market continued to outperform historical seasonality, which called for a scant 0.5% [MoM] increase,” ACT Research Vice President Steve Tam stated in the report.
But while used retail sales are on the upswing, auction sales and wholesale activity decreased 27% MoM and 26% MoM, respectively. Those declines came as “spot freight market capacity tightened for a fifth consecutive month in July,” Tam said.
