Isuzu North America announced a new production base in Greenville County, S.C., to expand its vehicle supply capabilities ahead of the electrification of commercial vehicles in North America.

Anaheim, Calif.-headquartered Isuzu North America purchased a 1 million-square-foot facility on more than 200 acres, and will be converting it into a state-of-the-art assembly plant, according to a Feb. 12 company release. The facility will feature a variable-model, variable-volume, production system for both internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles.

Isuzu’s North American facility will be the first company facility to use a production line without conveyors or pits, enhancing flexibility and scalability, according to the release. Automated inspections will ensure quality control, traceability of parts and defect prevention.

The Greenville plant will consolidate all production-related operations, including KD storage, parts storage, vehicle production and PIO operations, under one roof. Its location near Interstate 85 and Interstate 26 provides access to key transportation routes, including the Port of Charleston, according to the release. The plant is expected to improve efficiency, control over logistics and adaptability to market demands.

Isuzu’s $280 million investment will result in a production capacity of 50,000 units by 2030, with initial assembly operations starting in 2027, according to the release. The plant will produce N-Series Gas, N-Series Electric and F-Series Diesel trucks, and is expected to employ more than 700 people by 2028.

Greenville County’s growing industrial base and skilled workforce contributed to Isuzu’s site selection, according to the release. Isuzu, which sold 44,000 trucks in North America in the last fiscal year, aims to increase component procurement for battery electric vehicles and expand its research and development efforts in advanced automotive technology.
