United Rentals is expanding its digital platform with the addition of machine learning and augmented reality features.
United Rentals, the world’s largest equipment rental company, has introduced two features to streamline the rental process and improve jobsite productivity, according to an Aug. 28 United Rentals release. The enhancements, Equipment Fit Augmented Reality (AR) and Smart Suggestions, aim to help customers make faster, more confident decisions by anticipating their needs and offering greater visibility before placing an order.
Equipment Fit AR provides another layer of convenience by allowing users to virtually place 3D models of equipment on their jobsite using a mobile device, which enables contractors to assess dimensions, confirm fit in tight spaces and plan equipment placement more effectively. Meanwhile, Smart Suggestions leverages advanced machine learning to recommend equipment tailored to each customer, factoring in order history, jobsite data, seasonality and broader industry trends.
By predicting what equipment is most likely to be needed, the tool eliminates the need to search through the entire catalog and reduces the time it takes to identify and reserve equipment, according to the release. Early results indicate a 27% decrease in the time required for customers to complete orders.
The tools build on United Rentals’ broader strategy to strengthen its digital ecosystem, which already enables customers to browse, reserve and manage rentals from any device.
