The Equipment Leasing and Finance Association named James Cress acting president and chief executive while the association searches for its next permanent leader.

Cress, Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA)’s immediate past chair, will serve in the role during the association’s leadership transition after President and CEO Leigh Lytle announced plans to leave when her contract expires later this year, according to today’s ELFA release.
Cress brings more than 30 years of banking and equipment finance experience.
He spent nearly 18 years with Stryker, most recently as vice president and general manager of Flex Financial, Stryker’s captive finance business, according to the release. Before joining Stryker in 2008, Cress spent eight years with National City Commercial Capital and previously worked in commercial banking with U.S. Bank.
Cress has been involved with ELFA for more than two decades and served as chair of its board of directors in 2024-25, according to the release. His association experience also includes leadership of LeasePAC and participation in the Captive and Vendor Finance Business Council Steering Committee.
In the temporary role, Cress will work with ELFA’s senior leadership team and staff to maintain continuity and advance the association’s priorities.
