North American Class 8 truck net orders dropped 48% year over year in April to 8,200 units.
That marks the lowest monthly total since the onset of the pandemic, according to a report today by ACT Research. Tractor orders fell 51% YoY to 5,000 units, while vocational truck orders declined 44% to 3,200 units.
“In addition to self-inflicted economic stress, Q1 2025 saw publicly traded truckload carriers’ net income margins fall to the lowest levels since Q1 2010 — an ominous signal,” Carter Vieth, a research analyst at ACT Research, stated in the report.
Medium-duty Class 5 to Class 7 orders also plummeted, falling 35% YoY to 12,800 units, reflecting a six-month slowdown, Vieth said.
