Canadian heavy equipment dealer SMS Equipment has expanded into Europe with the acquisition of Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, one of Finland’s leading distributors of construction and mining machinery.

The deal broadens Acheson, Alberta-based SMS Equipment’s global footprint, which already includes operations in Canada, Alaska and Mongolia, according to today’s SMS release. The acquisition strengthens SMS Equipment’s presence in key mining and construction regions worldwide. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1992, Suomen Rakennuskone Oy provides equipment sales, maintenance, parts, training and technical support to customers across Finland, according to the release. Headquartered in Pirkkala, Finland, the company operates in Kempele, Kuopio, Vantaa and Kevitsa, Finland, and is the country’s exclusive dealer for Komatsu mining and construction equipment.

SMS Equipment brings decades of experience supporting mining operations in demanding environments, creating operational and technical synergies with its new Finnish partner. The transaction combines SMS Equipment’s global mining expertise with Suomen Rakennuskone Oy’s local market knowledge and established customer relationships.
