General Motors has promoted Duncan Aldred to senior vice president and president of GM North America, effective May 5.
Aldred, formerly vice president of commercial growth strategies and operations, will join GM’s senior leadership team and report to Rory Harvey, executive vice president and president of Global Markets, according to a GM release. Harvey said Aldred has a mandate to build on GM’s sales momentum, leverage its vehicle portfolio, and remain agile in a changing market.
A 33-year GM veteran, Aldred has held leadership roles in sales, services and marketing. He served as chairman and managing director of Vauxhall in the U.K. in 2010, and later led global sales, marketing and aftersales for Opel, according to the release. In 2014, he became vice president of global GMC and Buick, leading the launch of the Buick Avenir and GMC AT4 sub-brands.
In 2024, Aldred was named VP of commercial growth strategies, focusing on customer experience and driving growth across the company’s products and services, including GM Energy, GM Envolve, OnStar, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Digital Sales and Service.
