Electric trailer manufacturer Lightship has launched a mobile electric power platform aimed at construction, utility and off-grid markets, expanding the company’s commercial energy infrastructure business.

The Broomfield, Colo.-based company introduced PowerSled, a towable battery storage platform that combines mobile power generation with Lightship’s TrekDrive propulsion-assist technology, according to a May 28 company release.

PowerSled replaces traditional towable generators and battery trailers with a zero-emission alternative capable of transporting equipment while supplying on-site power for infrastructure, emergency response and field operations. The platform offers as much as 240 kilowatt-hours of usable battery capacity, continuous 38-kilowatt vehicle-to-load power output and payload capacity of up to 8,700 pounds, according to the release.

For perspective, the PowerSled could charge a Volvo ECR25 electric compact excavator 12 times with its usable battery capacity, based on the machine’s listed battery capacity on the OEM’s website. Meanwhile, Caterpillar’s 301.9 Electric Mini Excavator could be charged 7.5 times with a Powersled, based on machine specs on the OEM’s website.

Unlike conventional trailers, PowerSled assists the tow vehicle during transit to improve efficiency and reduce operational strain, according to the release.

Agricultural drone manufacturer Exedy Drones already has begun deploying PowerSled units as mobile charging and operations hubs for crop-monitoring and spraying fleets.

The company plans to offer multiple configurations, including flatbed, cargo and stripped-chassis models for custom commercial applications. The launch follows Lightship’s recently announced Colorado manufacturing expansion, which the company expects to increase production capacity more than fourfold by the end of 2026.

Founded in 2020, Lightship develops electric mobility and mobile energy infrastructure products, including electric recreational vehicles and commercial battery platforms.
