Caterpillar introduced Cat AI Assistant, an AI-powered tool to help customers buy, operate, maintain and manage equipment more efficiently, during the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The new assistant unifies Caterpillar’s digital applications and extensive data resources into a single conversational interface, allowing customers to access insights, guidance and recommendations across fleets and jobsites, according to a Caterpillar release today. Built on Caterpillar’s Helios data platform, which manages more than 16 petabytes of data, the system is intended to improve productivity, efficiency and safety while simplifying decision-making.

Cat AI Assistant supports a range of users, including providing ongoing analysis of equipment performance and maintenance, helping shift unplanned downtime into scheduled service for fleet owners and managers, according to the release. Meanwhile, it offers hands-free access to repair manuals, step-by-step instructions and parts recommendations for technicians and functions as an in-cab digital coach that delivers real-time information.

In-cab capabilities leverage Nvidia’s Jetson Thor platform to run speech recognition and advanced AI models, enabling features such as voice interaction and machine guidance. The technology can help address shortages by enabling less-experienced operators to work more safely and effectively.

Caterpillar plans to launch an off-board version of Cat AI Assistant in the first quarter of 2026 and continues to complete final validation of in-cab applications.

Caterpillar reported 2024 sales and revenues of $64.8 billion and operates globally across construction, resource industries, power and energy, and financial services.
